Grendel is an old school Metal band raised in September 2002. Brendan (bass) and Darin (guitar) found themselves playing in a rock band together for a couple of years. Influenced by artists like Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, Nitocris, Black Label Society and Metallica, they wanted to put a heavier project together.
After years of stripping, originals and covers bands Robert (drums), an old school friend of Brendan's, soon joined the boys. A well rounded drummer , Robert adds a solid driving rhythm to the band. The search for a vocalist began
Enter Mark (vocals). After years of bass and back-up vocals for covers and originals bands, Mark decided it was time to cut loose and step up to the mic full time. Enjoying many of the same bands as Brendan, Darin and Robert, Mark came to Grendel with a great sense of songwriting and a passionate voice.
4ZZZ played the recordings on their "Demo Show" on three occasions and each time the band received requests for a CD and enquiries about more live shows. The five songs were put on the Internet Underground Music Archive (www.IUMA.com) and in the first month achieved number thirteen on the charts of the most downloaded music on the worldwide site with over a thousand downloads.
The debut "Broken" proved popular especially with the inclusion of bonus songs from the Nasty Studios recording for 4ZZZ Live. The band also entered a song into the Emerging Cocktail compilation and was accepted to appear on the CD which features unsigned and emerging artists which sells through Sanity (and you can still get it online)
Brendan got married in early 2006 and made the tough choice to leave the band. A search was on and a new bass player had to be found. Along came Tim. He brings a new sound to the band with his experience and influences. Currently rehearsals are going strong and the band hope to be gigging again by the end of May.

HARD ROCK CAFE - GOLD COAST
One of the best known venues in the world, Grendel had a night to remember. The promoters, Jesse and Louise, really looked after the boys. Well fed and well fuelled they hit the stage around 10pm. The gig area was small but personable, with plenty of punters really getting into the sounds (check out the photo album). Plenty of people hanging around outside the windows to so they could hear the metal without changing out of their togs and thongs!!!
Club Psycho
2 October 2004
What a gig!!!!! Dura-mater started the night off with some great sound, not bad for only a second gig. Sick Flawless Minds followed witha set that got the crowd in. Guildofiends as usual rocked the roof and Headspace let fly with the late night headbangers. Grendel closed out the night with a hammering set that had the stayers headbanging and asking for more.
Just a shame that the sound guy shortened a couple of the sets including Grendel, because he was running late. Took him so long to set up the bands that he ran behind all night.
Railway Hotel
27 August 2004
The guys went off. A great performance considering that the room was empty. A major lack of advertising saw a quiet night with only the diehard Grendel fans in the room. Regardless of this they played up a storm. What a waste of a venue though. Fantastic potential gone to waste.
Metalive 2004
24 July 2004
What an incredible night. All five bands fired up big time. The roof of the Jubilee rocked until after midnight with Unamis rounding out the sound. I Shall Envy warmed up the crowd for Guildofiends. These guys blew the roof off with their great style and certainly showed of things to come that night. State of Integrity took to the stage with power and energy. The singer had the crowd roaring when Grendel hit their first note. Still buzzing after Friday nights gig the guys played up to the crowd and really rocked.
CLUB PSYCHO
23 July 2004
Once again a great gig at the Club. This venue whilst small, has an absolutely fantastic vibe. Grendel goes off in this place and really gets into the crowd.
EMERGING COCKTAIL SHOWCASE
26 June 2004
Give Grendel a big stage and they are going to use it. The fire from Friday night continue and Grendel rocked the roof. From 8 year old kids to 74 year old women the crowd loved it. See Grendelism for a new story.
In the immortal words of Molly - do ya self a favour and get out to see these guys. They are on the boil right now.
